Ty Soria
I'm about to start my fourth-year as a journalism student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with minors in Music and Media Arts, Technology and Society. In my free time, I love playing beach volleyball, basketball, ultimate frisbee, practicing piano and going to concerts. I loooove Hawaiian food and I'm down to talk sports or music anytime.
My college and career journey
As soon as I got to college, I knew I wanted to stay within the sports media world in any shape or form. I didn't know which path to choose, so I did the only natural thing—everything! My goal: continuously elevate my skills each quarter. Since arriving at Cal Poly, I have been reporting on Cal Poly Sports, tackling audio, video, radio and podcast storytelling. In addition, I became an expert in both studio and game productions while working for the ESPN+ broadcast crew at Cal Poly. In my third year, I combined sports reporting and audio storytelling by becoming KCPR's first Sports Director. I was in charge of running a sports podcast and a sports talk radio show, the latter of which earned an IBS nomination. I've continued to balance a life of journalism while remaining on the Dean's List every single quarter.
Now, in my fourth year, I am again tackling a brand-new position in Mustang News because of my versatility and unique expertise. As Audio/Video Director, I am currently in charge of all broadcast and video content for Mustang Media Group. As the media landscape continues to change, my job is to steward innovation while providing consistent, in-depth coverage of Cal Poly and the Central Coast.
