Live event coverage
NEWSCCAST
I pitched, directed, produced and anchored KCPR's first ever live radio coverage of the St. Patrick's Day festivities in San Luis Obispo. Why? To help ensure community safety through fast distribution of information.
Let me explain the urgency of the situation: The city of San Luis Obispo and Cal Poly teamed up to stop the yearly block party, which amassed over 5,000 partygoers in 2024. They diverted students away from Hathway street onto campus by introducing a music festival featuring Galantis. Simultaneously, the city hired hundreds of cops as far as San Bernadino county to blockade partygoers from gathering in the street. No one knew how students were going to behave. I wanted give the community a quick resource of news about the happenings so people can stay safe. I called reporters on the scene and read live updates from other reporters to keep San Luis Obispo informed. I also created talk segments about past St. Fratty's Day conflicts and experiences, as well as the drama preceding the festival.
